Stephen Mead will appear at the Barracks Row Fall Festival on Capitol Hill this Saturday, 2:30 pm.
He will perform my Idyll, "A Street-Merchant Imagines His Riches to Come" from
Idylls for a Bare Stage. Performances have been arranged by Hannah Hessel who runs Happenings at the Harman as audience enrichment manager for Shakespeare Theatre Company. STC has administrative offices and rehearsal spaces on Barracks Row - Stephen will conjure up the runaway fantasies of an Arabian Nights street-merchant in one of the rehearsal halls for this festival. This event is in conjunction with Arts on the Hill.
I won't be there - about to hit the road for a 12 city/14 day reading tour with Furniture Press Books, publisher of my
Heraclitean Pride (2010) and
The Re-echoes (2012).
Then
Mead and I will prep for a
traveling Murder on the Bare Stage weekend just after Halloween. Friday night, November 1st in Baltimore, the 1 hr version we did for CapFringe will be part of "LitMore's Day of the Dead Poets Society Soiree" - a fundraising gala for a new writers' center in Baltimore. Then the next day we're heading up to New York to do it again for hosts Tony Torn and Lee Ann Brown at their salon in Chelsea. Details to come!
Meanwhile, the Furniture Press Books tour won't be glamorous (going by rental van, much couch surfing), but will be fun and grueling - grueling-fun, and endless literary performance / poetic immersions. Eating, sleeping - nourishing, reposing on - poetry. With a reading every night, I think for the first time I'll try my hand (& voice) at doing an Idyll myself - just a reading, not the full technique of the Idyll I request/require from actors. Probably the Palamedes...
That, and I'll grow a beard for the first time.
